Afton man arrested after short pursuit

An Afton, Wyoming man was arrested Tuesday after leading a Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) trooper on a brief pursuit.

It started around 7:36 a.m. after Timothy Peterson, 42, of Afton, was pulled over on an “obscured license plate” violation near milepost 89 on US 89.

When the trooper attempted to arrest Peterson for driving on a suspended license, Peterson would not leave his 2007 GMC Sierra truck and sped away from the trooper. The officer gave chase but terminated the pursuit when it neared Afton city limits.

Afton Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies found the truck abandoned at an Afton residence a short time later.

Officials confirmed Peterson was in the residence and were able to arrest him there without further incident.

According to WHP, Peterson was charged with eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license and interference with a peace officer.
