Principal bans candy canes, says ‘J shape’ stands for Jesus
A principal in Nebraska is on leave after trying to ban anything and everything Christmas from her school.
The Elkhorn School District says Principal Jennifer Sinclair did not consult with school administrators before making the move.
Sinclair detailed in a memo all the Christmas-related things that were banned including references to Santa, Christmas trees, elves, candy canes — even the combination of red and green.
The letter drew a predictable uproar from parents.
“It’s almost taking the fun out of Christmas, pretty much,” said Vicki Dryden, a grandmother of one of the students. “I feel that something was wrong with what she was doing. She was kinda enforcing or making the rest of her school think the way she did.”
The principal has since sent an apology letter.
