Pebble Creek to close for the week after opening weekend

On the final day of the mountain’s opening weekend, people came out to enjoy the snow before the mountain closes for the week.

“We wanted to give people a chance to pack in the snow that’s on the upper mountain. We’re waiting for more snow to fall and it just makes the ski runs better, which makes people more happy,” Mike Rodriguez, the mountain’s ski lift supervisor explained.

Mountain regular Ramon Archuleta being a perfect example.

“Well I’m hoping that there’s going to be a lot more snow, I’m really hoping that it just dumps a lot of snow, that’s what I need,” Archuleta explained.

While the snow is the major factor, the mountain spends the better part of a year planning for the season that lasts just a few months. And when it’s finally time for people to make their way up to the mountain there’s still a lot of things that need to be checked on.

“When people are here we just want to make sure that they can get in the parking lots, park good, be safe and then once they get up onto the hill obviously making sure that the ski lifts are continuously going,” Rodriguez said.

Keeping the lifts running quickly is super important for the mountain because it helps people get up and down quickly, allowing them to get more runs in and get more people on the mountain.

In preparation for further snowfall, having people on the mountain is actually beneficial according to Rodriguez.

“The guests, skiing and riding, actually helps to pack in the snow so that when that next snowfall does come, it helps to just make a really good base that will last the entire season,” he said.

Closing out a successful opening weekend, Pebble Creek will open for the remainder of the 2018-19 season next Friday.
