Bannock inmate dies in custody

A Bannock County inmate died of an apparent cardiac arrest at around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office said Lance Alan Quick was booked into the jail at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8 on a misdemeanor DUI.

They said Quick had a history and diagnosis of mental illness and was off of his medications. They said he was unresponsive and “acting out” as he was being booked into jail.

A civil hearing was held Friday morning. Quick was found incompetent and a danger to himself and others. The Sheriff’s Office found a bed for him at State Hospital South and was preparing to transfer Quick when he suffered cardiac arrest.

Medical staff and deputies performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. Quick was taken to Portneuf Regional Medical Center where he died.

The man’s death is under investigation by detectives from Blackfoot and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
