Furnace malfunction prompts evacuation of church

UPDATE 12/23/18 1:55 p.m.: Central Fire Distirct says the smoke was due to some problems with a couple of the furnaces inside the church.

Jim Kelly, battalion chief with CFD, said there were some volunteer firefighters attending church inside the building who took control of the situation.

They evacuated the church as a precaution and called in CFD.

Kelly said fire crews shut off the furnaces and notified church leaders who are working to get them fixed.

There were no injuries and no damage to the church.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Rigby fire department is responding to reports of an electrical smoke smell at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building on 198 N and 4300 E.

Fire crews are arriving at the scene.

Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News 3 has a reporter on the way.
