Wyoming snowmobiler killed in avalanche

Back country avalanche conditions are listed as “moderate” in the Gallatin, Utah, and Bridger Teton areas Monday.

Snowmobiler Dustin Laplant, 31, was killed in a hard slab avalanche in the Wyoming range on Saturday. The avalanche center said he was riding uphill in a steep terrain and triggered the avalanche. His sled reared up and flipped backwards, pinning him under the sled on his back. A partner was unable to assist.

Conditions are a little more dangerous in the Sawtooth region. Avalanche conditions are described as “considerable” in the general area between Stanley and Fairfield.

Be sure to check with the regional center before you head into the back country.
