Garbage collection delayed in IF & Pocatello

The city of Pocatello Sanitation Department is expecting its busiest days of the year between December 26 and December 31.

During the period, the department will offer special holiday pickups to accommodate the overflow generated by the season. Residents should place extra bags and boxes in the same location as their regular garbage collection.

Recycling collection will be delayed by one day due to the Christmas holiday. Residents with a Tuesday pickup should place their autocarts out on Wednesday. Wednesday collection will happen on Thursday, Thursday collection on Friday, and Friday will occur on Saturday.

In Idaho Falls, all commercial and residential garbage collection will be one day late through the holiday weeks.

Monday, December 31, will be the exception, with pickup on schedule.

As for Christmas trees, the city of Pocatello will provide drop boxes for tree disposal. They can be found at City Hall, 911 N. 7th Ave., Rainey Park, 900 S. Arther Ave., and near the entrance to Sister City Park on Pocatello Creek Road. Please remove ornaments first. The tree boxes will be removed on the morning of January 9, 2019.

Idaho Falls has designated 15 collection sites for discarded Christmas trees. The service will be provided until Jan. 30, 2019. (They are not to be used by commercial tree lots.)

Like Pocatello, the city is advising residents to please remove lights and ornaments first. They will ultimately be chipped and turned into mulch and the mulch will be made available to residents next spring.

The tree disposal sites are:

— Washburn & Michael (Reinhart Park)
— Coachman & Broadway (behind car wash)
— Fremont Avenue (by recycling bin north of Science Center)
— Mound & W. Elva Street (Melaleuca Field parking lot)
— N. Water & Chestnut (NE corner)
— W. 13th & Placer
— 10th & Emerson
— 17th & Emerson
— S. Boulevard & Rogers Street
— Bennett & Waid
— Sunnyside Park (by Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center – SE corner)
— South of 1st Street (west side of Meppen)
— Sykes & Davidson
— Ashment & 12th Street
— Russet & Lincoln
