Skier nearly buried by avalanche
A female skier was carried a long distance and buried Wednesday with just a portion of her helmet exposed, according to the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center. The slide happened in the Lobb area near Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Companions uncovered and rescued the skier. She did suffer minor injuries.
A slab avalanche was triggered in the same location by a snowboarder last Sunday.
The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center said conditions in western Wyoming are “moderate”. Human activity could trigger slab avalanches that are 1 to 3 feet in depth on weak layers of faceted snow at the mid and upper elevations.
Conditions in the Sawtooth, Gallatin, and northern Utah region were also described as “moderate” on Thursday.
