Service back on for most CenturyLink customers

Many customers across the area say their internet and phone services are working, but CenturyLink says there are still areas to restore.
In a statement they said, “We are seeing good progress, but our service restoration work is not complete. Our teams are continuing their efforts to resolve these issues and we will continue to provide updates throughout the day.”

CenturyLink is continuing to work on a network outage affecting internet customers across the nation.
In a statement Friday morning they said, “We discovered some additional technical problems as our service restoration efforts were underway. We continue to make good progress with our recovery efforts and we are working tirelessly until restoration is complete. We apologize for the disruption.”

CenturyLink says they have identified the cause to a network outage affecting most of their internet customers nationwide.
“CenturyLink engineers and technicians have identified a network element that was impacting customer services and are addressing the issue in order to fully restore services. We estimate that services will be fully restored within four hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused our customers.”
UPDATE 12/27/2018 4:00 P.M. –
We still don’t know when internet and phone services will be restored for customers using CenturyLink.
A spokesman for the company finally returned our calls. Linda Johnson based at the CenturyLink’s Corporation Communication office wouldn’t expound on a cause.
She said, ” The CenturyLink network is still experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. The CenturyLink technical teams will continue to work until services are restored.”
She wouldn’t say how long or how close they are to fixing the issue.
UPDATE: 1:33 p.m.
Other state agencies are also reporting difficulties.
The Idaho Secretary of State’s office said its phones were not functioning due to an issue with its network provider.
The state tax commission said it was having similar issues. It has provided some alternate phone numbers for people with emergency needs. They are 208-334-7660 in Boise or 800-972-7660, toll-free.
UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.
The Century Link outage is affecting Idaho Lottery operations. The Lottery said that the outage is affecting communications between various points in its operational system.
In a statement, officials said, “the Idaho Lottery is currently unable to sell draw game tickets or validate and pay claims on winning tickets until the problem is corrected. As of 11:00 AM MT, we do not have a timeline on when service will be restored. We do apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
UPDATE 12/27/ 2018 11:30 a.m. – CenturyLink commented on their Twitter page, “Our network is experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. We understand some customers are currently unable to generate tickets through the CTL help portal. We know how important services are to our customers and are working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
It’s still unknown what caused the internet outage.

Customers of CenturyLink are reporting internet outages nationwide Thursday.
According to the web service “Downdetector.com” , the provider has reported issues across the 37 states it serves. The problems appear to have started around 1 a.m. MT. Most of the outage reports, 78%, deal with internet outages.
CenturyLink offers internet, television, phone, and home security services. Its television service is offered through satellite providers, DirecTV, or over the internet under the Prism TV brand.
