Winter Weather Advisory for tonight and Sunday

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Snake River Plain. The Winter Storm Watch for our local mountains has been upgraded to a Warning.

A potent winter storm is forecast to arrive late tonight and
continue Sunday, bringing significant snow accumulations to the
western central mountains and eastern highlands of southeast
Idaho. In addition, strong winds are expected Sunday, resulting in
significant blowing snow causing reduced visibility and slick
roads. Major impacts to travel are possible.

…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 8 PM MST
SUNDAY…

* WHAT…Snow and blowing snow expected. Plan on slippery road
conditions. In addition, areas of poor visibility are expected.
Tree branches could fall as well. Total snow accumulations of 1
to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 6 inches, are
expected.

* WHERE…Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Dubois, Ririe, and St. Anthony.

* WHEN…From 2 AM to 8 PM MST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will cause
considerable blowing and drifting snow. Near whiteout
conditions may occur at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means periods
of snow and blowing snow will cause primarily travel
difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited
visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road

…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 11 PM MST SUNDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Plan on difficult
travel conditions. Tree branches could fall as well. Total snow
accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, with localized amounts up to 12
inches, are expected.

* WHERE…Victor, Ashton, Driggs, Island Park, as well as Targhee
Pass and Pine Creek Pass.

* WHEN…From 2 AM to 11 PM MST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Southwest winds gusting as high as 45 mph
will cause considerable blowing and drifting of snow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow means severe
winter weather conditions are expected. If you must travel, keep
an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling
5 1 1.
