Former Wyoming prison worker gets probation

A 31-year-old former Wyoming State Penitentiary worker has received probation for having a sexual relationship with an inmate in 2015.

Shantell Ann Wyant was given a three-year suspended sentence by District Judge Dawnessa Snyder last week in Rawlins after being found guilty of three felony counts of sexual assault last September.

The Rawlins Times reports that the former prison shipping and receiving clerk apologized to her family.

During an unrelated investigation regarding a report of theft inside the prison warehouse, an unnamed inmate informed officials of Wyant’s relationship with an inmate serving time for trafficking cocaine.

The relationship would later end once Wyant discovered that the inmate was seeing another woman.
