Heavy snow causes power outages

Update: 9:00 p.m.

Fall River Electric confirms all power outages in Island Park and West Yellowstone are now restored.

Repair crews have restored electricity to the Island Park area. Most ower was back on by around 3 p.m. However, Fall River Electric reports crews are continuing to work on smaller “snow loading” outages in the area.

The main transmission line to the Pond’s Lodge area of Island Park was damaged by heavy, wet snow Monday. The damage resulted in a widespread power outage affecting Elk Creek, Phillips Lodge, and the Buffalo River Estates areas. Fall River Electric estimated power would be restored by 3 p.m. Monday.

Heavy snow is already causing problems for electricity customers in the Island Park and West Yellowstone areas.

Fall River Electric is reporting multiple small power outages in the area.

The outages began Sunday and will likely continue throughout the day today.

They say the problems are the result of “snow loading,” with heavy snow collecting on power lines.

Lines were down Monday morning in Pinehaven and Yale Creek areas of Island Park.

Official estimate power will be restored by 3 p.m.
