Pocatello schools closed, Ammon Park sledding open

The snowstorm that hit Monday night into the morning has left the area for the most part, but not before dumping several inches of snow. Whether you like snow or not, it’s here and it can bring a lot of negativity with it. It’s cold outside and the roads are dangerous. However, Tuesday not everyone was disappointed with the white stuff.

Bannock County received anywhere from three to five inches of snow last night into the early morning hours. While many people hate the snow, today kids took advantage of their snow day by sledding in Ammon park.

It is unknown whether District 25 will reopen tomorrow, but there is even more snow in the forecast. And it’s all due to what is called a “convergent zone.”

First Alert Meteorologist Dr. Matt Brewer says this could bring several inches of snow tomorrow night.

“Winds coming from the north and they meet with westerly winds coming out of the magic valley and where they converge somewhere in the Snake River Plain results in an upward motion and the formation of showers,” he said. “And, it can result in very quick snow accumulation, snow rates of one to two inches an hour.”
