St. Anthony veteran to retire

A retirement ceremony is scheduled Saturday for Idaho Army National Guard Command Sergeant Major Curtis Howard of St. Anthony.

Howard served in the US Army from 1983 to 1986, joined the US Army Reserve from 1988 to 1993 and then enlisted in the Idaho Army National Guard at the St. Anthony Armory in 1993. He has served with the 1-148th Field Artillery Regiment for most of the past 25 years. At the end of March, when he officially retires, Howard will have served 36 years.

Howard served two deployments in Iraq. He served from 2004-2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III and again in support of Operation New Dawn in 2010-2011. His numerous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge.

In civilian life, Howard is an operations manager for the J.R. Simplot Company. He has been married to his wife, Jody, for 34 years and has 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

The retirement ceremony will include Brigadier General Russell Johnson, director of the joint staff of the Idaho National Guard and Idaho Adjutant General and Commander, Brigadier General Michael Gardshak.

The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Anthony Armory.
