Sexually transmitted diseases rising

Sex education may be growing topic for lawmakers because cases of sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise.

A report from the Center for Disease Control shows chlyamydia cases increased 22 percent since 2014.

Gonorrhea is up 67 percent.

Syphillis is up a staggering 76 percent.

Epidemiologists say a big part of this increase is due to the use of dating apps that allow strangers to hook up with people they don’t know.

“A lot of these sexually transmitted diseases or the sexually transmitted infections, you can have these and not even know it.” Said Jeff Doerr, an Epidemiologist with Southeastern Idaho Public Health. “With Chlamydia or Gonorrhea half the people or even more can be having that and share it with other people and not have any signs or symptoms. So if they’re not showing any signs or symptoms to them it’s like oh I’m fine.”

Doctors say during casual relationships, conversations about your partner’s health is delayed.

There are also some new drug resistant forms of the infections.

Idaho has the 4th lowest rates for STD’s in the country.

Alaksa has the highest.
