Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories posted for Wednesday

A potent Winter storm is on the way for Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories for Idaho and Wyoming.

The National Weather Service in Pocatello says, “A significant moist Pacific storm will move through the area impacting our western areas by late this afternoon and continue through Friday. Have issued advisories and warnings for most of our area through Thursday morning for the first round of this storm bringing moderate to high snow amounts and moderate to high South Southwest winds. The first round will be cold enough for snow for all areas and start gradually warming up by late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Additional advisories/warnings will likely be needed for Thursday into Friday morning but will likely be for elevations above 4500 to 5000 feet.

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM WEDNESDAY TO 7 AM MST

THURSDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to

10 inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE…Jackson Hole and Star Valley.

* WHEN…From 6 AM Wednesday to 7 AM MST Thursday. The heaviest

snow is expected from late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday

evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel could be very difficult. The

hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening

commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather

conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you

must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your

vehicle in case of an emergency.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM WEDNESDAY TO 5 AM

MST THURSDAY…

* WHAT…Snow expected. Plan on slippery road conditions,

including during the evening commute on Wednesday. Total snow

accumulations of 1 to 5 inches are expected. Higher amounts

along bench areas of the Snake River plain, North of Rexburg,

Craters of the Moon and areas west of Mackay. Lower amounts in

downslope areas mainly along I-84 from Pocatello Airport to

American Falls. South Southwest 20 to 25 with gusts around 35

mph.

* WHERE…Mud Lake, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Pocatello, Craters of

the Moon, Atomic City, Taber, Arco, and Mackay.

* WHEN…From 5 AM Wednesday to 5 AM MST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for reduced visibilities at

times due to blowing and drifting of snow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will

cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered

roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
