Local high school invites public to appreciate students work
Compass Academy in Idaho Falls is getting ready to put on its fourth annual Student Expo.
“We really want people to see what it’s like when they sign up,” said Logan Waetje, the dean of students at Compass Academy. “We don’t want misconceptions about what we do. We’re proud of what we do, but we know its different (than most schools) and so we’d love the public to come check it out.”
Since 2016, Compass Academy has held events in February for potential students and their families to learn about the Idaho Falls School District 91 magnet high school. This event is run by students and highlights projects from freshman through senior courses.
About 80 students will show off projects they have been working on over the year. Booths and tables include forensics, strength & conditioning, math, chemistry and more.
“If you like working in groups or you need to amp up your social skills, or you need to express yourself through your projects, this is the school to go to,” said junior Addealynn Beasley.
Applications will be accepted at the district office from Feb 19-22 for 150 spots in next year’s freshman class.
