Idaho Falls approves Broadway improvement project

The Idaho Falls City Council has approved a construction agreement between the Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency and the Idaho Transportation Department.

ITD is responsible for maintaining the street.

The new Broadway Streetscape Improvements Project will formalize a $525,000 financial commitment by the Redevelopment Agency. It’s aimed at bringing the street’s appearance up to the same standards as the rest of the downtown area.

The Redevelopment Agency’s most recent projects have included the Bonneville Hotel and former Saving Center property at Broadway and Memorial Drive.

Councilman Thomas Hally said, “We really felt like Broadway is the main entrance into the city off the highway and had been ignored.” He said the renovations would help add value to the entire downtown area and bring the various sectors together.

It will involve upgrading the sidewalks, landscaping, and irrigation along Broadway between Yellowstone Avenue and Memorial Drive.

The new agreement will allow the city to provide design engineering and construction administration of the project. The cost will be reimbursed by the redevelopment agency.
