The dog that defied all the odds needs help

An Idaho Falls dog has defied the odds to survive and is now turning to the community to seek help.

Chance is an 8-month-old puppy that is prone to seizures.

He was originally found in Rigby as a stray and was brought to the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter, where he spent most of his life under their roof and care.

Because of his health condition, it has been very difficult for the shelter to find him a family.

A little over a month ago, Chance was finally adopted by a family in Swan Valley. Unfortunately, a
place to call home only lasted three days.

The puppy was playing outside with other dogs in the backyard of his new home, which was not gated.

There, Chance experienced a seizure episode that provoked him to run away.

The family looked for their puppy for several days without any luck.

After 29 days had passed, a driver spotted a dog near a river struggling in harsh weather conditions. Chance was finally found.

He was returned to the Idaho Falls animal shelter, where they say it was a miracle to find him alive, but he now needs a lot of help for him to continue to survive.

Danyelle Harker, an Idaho Falls Animal Control officer, said: “Chance is having major surgery on Tuesday to most likely remove some metal and rocks from his intestines. This may include having to remove part of his tail and ears affected (by) frostbite.”

The Humane Society of the Upper Valley and the East Side Pet Clinic are working together to care for Chance.

Currently, the funds to provide him with the treatment he needs are not in the budget.

They have set up a fundraiser page and are looking to the public for their support.
