Education center in Idaho Falls now open

The William J. Maeck Education Center at the Idaho Falls Zoo is officially open.

Dozens of guests flooded the new building today to see what the finished product looks like.

It has three classrooms in which the people of Idaho Falls can learn about the animals and world around us.

“My favorite part about this new space is the fact that we have running water and bathrooms in our classrooms for the first time ever at the zoo,” said Sunny Katseanes, the education curator for the Idaho Falls Zoo. “I know it sounds like a simple thing but I tell you that, when you’re teaching kids running water and bathrooms are an important thing.”

Staff members said that the building is just the beginning of a bright future for the zoo. They recently got 5 additional acres where the old fairgrounds in Tautphaus Park used to be.

The center will open to the public on Monday.
