No injuries reported after Friday morning fire

The Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to the 7000 block of N 5th W for a report of a structure fire Friday around 5:41 a.m.

Officials report one adult female was home at the time of the fire.

The resident reported she was awakened by the sound of a loud pop and saw an orange glow coming from the outside corner of the home.
She attempted to put the fire out herself with buckets of water, but the fire began to spread.

She called 911 and was able to self-evacuate before crews arrived.

When firefighters arrived on scene to the small single story home, 35 to 40 percent of the home was fully involved in fire.
They began with an exterior attack on the home and then began fighting the fire on the inside.

A primary and second search of the home was negative and there were no other individuals found. It is reported there was one cat inside the home at the time, but it is not known if the cat made it out.

Due to a temperature of -7 and a lack of fire hydrants, maintaining a constant water supply was difficult for firefighters. In addition, the home had challenging structural elements, including two ceilings making it difficult for firefighters to track down and extinguish the hot spots.

The structure remains standing, but there is significant fire and smoke damage. There is no estimate on the cost associated with the damages, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no other structures threatened or damaged.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho is assisting the resident with finding shelter.
