Shoshone-Bannock government building suffers damage

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes 40-year-old government building in Fort Hall suffered extensive damage after a roof collapse at around 3 a.m. Monday. There were no injuries. The roof collapsed over the Elderly Nutrition kitchen. The area affects office space for 42 employees and affects numerous departments, including the 477 Employment, Education and Training Services, Consumer Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Elderly Nutrition, Sho-Ban News, Tribal Library and TANF department. The damage also affected the Tribes’ overall Business Center activity, including internet and telephone services.

The Fort Hall Business Council said it was looking for alternate locations so that affected departments could resume business. In the meantime, the entire government was shut down. It will reopen once structural integrity is restored.

Because of safety issues, the public is advised to avoid the area until further notice.

All scheduled deliveries, including FedEx and UPS, to Fort Hall have been deferred until further notice.

Updated information will be posted on the Tribes’ Facebook page.
