Bannock County upgrades emergency 911 system

Bannock County 911 recently upgraded its emergency 9-1-1 equipment with next generation processing.

Mission-critical communication solution will allow Bannock County 911 to provide call-taking services to residences in the region like never before.

Bannock County has the largest call center in the region. There are nearly 11 call-taking dispatch positions at three primary centers.

24-hour service providing mission-critical tasks supporting police, fire, search and rescue and other medical services.

911 calls are placed within the city/county’s jurisdiction and location, then the dispatcher determines whether to call police, ems, or fire.

In 2018, the dispatch center received over 100,000 emergency and non-emergency calls, 40,000 law enforcement related incidences, 25,000 fire calls and 10,000 ambulance calls.

In addition, Bannock County 911 has also implemented a high-capacity fiber optics system to provide broadband connectivity that is more efficient and larger coverage as well as cost saving.

It’s called VESTA.

It’s a server-based, full-featured IP system specifically designed for high tech, high volume operations.

Essentially it’s all digital rather than an analog system that dates back to the 1970s. Since it’s computer-based, it is also equipped with military-grade encryption to protect against hacking.

One of it’s best features is that it will provide seamless multi-jurisdictional data sharing capabilities. Such as mapping, field reporting for officers, crime analysis and jail management.

The new system will allow department and agencies to enforce the law and improve efficiency between law enforcement, fire response, and emergency medical services.

All emergency responders are urging people to register their cell phones with Bannock County in order to receive text messages and updates for emergency alerts.
