Scam calls make rounds in Madison County

A familiar phone scam is targeting Madison County residents.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said several residents report receiving calls from someone claiming to be one of their detectives. They claim to have a warrant for the person’s arrest and demand money from them.

The phone number appearing on caller-ID appears to be one of the Sheriff’s Office’s public numbers.

It is not real. The Sheriff’s Office said it will never call someone about warrants or demand money. As Corporal Isaac Payne said, “We are a full service company. We will pick you up and give you a ride to our lovely facility.”

If you receive one of the phone calls, in Madison County or anywhere else, hang up and call local law enforcement.
