City of Chubbuck announces location for new city hall and downtown area

The City of Chubbuck made a big announcement Friday.

After several years of debate, the city has finally chosen a location for its new City Hall. With that, it has also announced where it plans to develop a downtown area.

The new development will be a quarter-mile down the street from the corner of Chubbuck Road and Burley Road. However, choosing the location was not easy.

“To make sure that we’re building this in the right place became huge to me,” Chubbuck Mayor Kevin England said. “I don’t want people to think it was a knee-jerk reaction or it was off of some faulty decisions. So we actually brought professionals to help guide us.”

It came down to six sites. Chubbuck city officials and outside consultants believe this location will be most beneficial for new business.

“Us building where we’re going to here is going to be a draw to bring businesses in, bring whatever comes in to build around that City Hall,” England said.

Chubbuck residents won’t face any financial burden. Due to years of financial planning, the city won’t have to bond for this project.

“We can take care of those needs without asking you to go to the ballot box and tell us you can give us more money,” England said.

Construction on the project is still to be determined, but they estimate the development should take five to eight years to complete. However, city officials are already excited for its completion.

“This is just the beginning of several things that are going to happen that will somewhat change the face of our community but still keep the great positives that are here,” England said.
