VIPKid benefitting young local mothers

VIPKid is a company that sets up teachers from North America to teach English online to children in China.

It’s used nationwide and is leaving a mark in Idaho Falls as one of the highest concentrated areas in the country.

The company is more commonly recognized for its online educational platform but to some Idaho women, it’s a chance to work and still be a mom.

“Particularly in Southeast Idaho, we have a high concentration of stay-at-home moms and a high concentration of educated stay-at-home moms,” Idaho Falls VIP Teacher Kylie Walker said.

The number of local VIP teachers is progressively growing.

“A lot of these educated moms don’t want to leave their kids and VIPKid allows them to work from home. It’s perfect for a mom,” Walker said.

Some of these locally teaching moms believe working with VIPKid is benefiting them in more ways than just keeping families together.

They say it’s allowing them to make their dreams come true.

“I have always wanted to be a teacher,” Ammon VIPKId Teacher Tarren Johnsen VIPKid said. “That was something I had decided when I was in middle school. I have a degree in education and when I had my son, I wanted to be able to stay at home with him. VIPKid was the perfect fit for me. It gives me the chance to use my degree, stay home with my son, and practice my passion of teaching.”

“I had always wanted to do something with my degree,” Ammon VIPKId Teache Sarah Dimmick said. “I always planned to one day work but wanted to wait till all my kids were at least in school. VIPKid has allowed me to start working again and sooner than what I had originally planned.”

Once a month, the teachers host a workshop to collaborate and share teaching styles to enhance their students’ online learning experience.

“When we get together, we’re also able to share ideas on what works and what doesn’t in our classroom,” Dimmick said. “Through these meetings, we are able to become better teachers.”

Anyone interested in teaching with VIPKid needs to have a bachelor’s degree, good internet, a computer with a webcam, and some sort of teaching experience.
