UPDATE 3-13-2019: Rodney Taylor, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from his injuries sustained in the propane explosion. He passed away in Driggs. Graveside services will be on Monday, March 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Victor Cemetery.

ORIGINAL STORY 3-7-2019:

The Teton County Fire District has determined a propane explosion was the likely source of an explosion that destroyed a home and nearby outbuildings at 8071 S. 4500 W. in Cedron on March 2.

The homeowner, identified as Rodney Taylor, was seriously injured and transported to the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City.

The explosion was so loud, Fire Chief Bret Campbell said firefighters inside the Victor Fire Station could hear it. The explosion was reported by a dozen people at 8:57 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters found a small fire burning and downed electric distribution lines when they arrived on the scene minutes later. Neighbors were already there, offering assistance to Taylor.

Taylor’s home, on the south side of the scene, was knocked off its foundation. The explosion destroyed a two-room bunk-house cabin, used for storage, and a working wood shop. Campbell said the explosion detonated on the south end of the cabin. Taylor was found in the workshop area on the north side of the complex.

The investigation into the exact cause of the explosion is continuing.
