Pocatello Free Clinic’s largest turnout for annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K event
Pocatello’s running community came out to Ross Park this morning to show their support for the Pocatello Free Clinic. In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the free clinic held its fourth annual Shamrock Shuffle.
Runners came dressed in green from head to toe, ready to hit the 5K run with a lucky start. Dogs and strollers were a common sight among the competitors, as well.
For many runners whose goal it is to get into shape for the summer season, it is the goals of the Pocatello Free Clinic that brought them here today.
“I think it’s amazing they find such a healthy and energizing way to give back to the community and give us a way to support them,” Emma McGovern, a runner in the event, said.
Krystal Lish, an avid runner, and Pocatello Free Clinic supporter, leaped on the opportunity to get in some early morning exercise while helping one of her favorite organizations. “I think any time we can give back to our community and help any cause, especially medical insurance, which isn’t easy to come by for many people… It’s an important cause.”
The Pocatello Free Clinic has provided free health care to thousands of people in southeast Idaho who can’t afford medical insurance. After 30 years of providing services, the clinic is finally moving into a new building in April.
“With the move coming up, we just have different expenses that we didn’t have before. The funds from this will actually help us with our move to the new clinic,” Executive Director of the Pocatello Free Clinic, Christina Potts said.
more runners this year, the Shamrock Shuffle 5K was the biggest turnout since it started. Potts and her team at the Free Clinic couldn’t be any more grateful for the community support.50With more than
