ITD gearing up for summer projects

The Idaho Transportation Department is announcing its long-range transportation plans for the next 20 years, called Idago 2040.

Some projects are currently underway. Construction at the Rose Road interchange near Blackfoot has been going on for several months now. ITD says things are going well and the construction is expected to be finished this fall.

“They’re finishing canal construction,” said Megan Stark, with ITD District 6. “And then they’re also working on, doing a lot of dirt work right now, a lot of earth moving, getting ready for the actual road reconstruction. And once that happens, that will be later on this summer.”

With summer approaching, more construction projects will be popping up, including several on I-15 south of Blackfoot and one on U.S. Highway 30.

“An I-15 project from the system interchange, which is I-86 and I-15, that connection right there,” Stark said. “From there to the Fort Hall boundary will be road reconstruction. U.S. 30 from Georgetown Summit to Nounan Road, there’s another road reconstruction on U.S. 30 there.”

A major project will be reconstruction of the Lorenzo Bridge, which is at the Madison and Jefferson county line on Highway 20. The Pine Creek Pass bridge is also expected to be finished this year. There will also be several projects on I-15 north of Idaho Falls, including road reconstruction starting at Dubois.

“We did the northbound headed to Montana last year. This year, we’re doing southbound,” Stark said. “We are also doing, on U.S. 20, from Ashton Hill to Dumpground Road, we are doing a complete road reconstruction this year, also.”

Tuesday night’s ITD meeting will be posted online for the public to watch. If you want to watch ir or make a public comment, you can do so here.
