Boise State names first female president

The Idaho State Board of Education named Dr. Marlene Tromp as the seventh president of Boise State University Tuesday.

The Board approved a three-year contract for Tromp during a special Board meeting held by teleconference in the Stueckle Sky Center at Albertsons Stadium on the Boise State campus.

She will be the first female president in Boise State’s history.

Tromp grew up in Green River, Wyoming. She currently serves as Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of California, Santa Cruz, a research university with over 18,000 students. Prior to her arrival at UC Santa Cruz, Tromp served in various administrative roles at Arizona State University including Vice Provost of the University’s West Campus and Dean of ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Tromp earned a Ph.D. in English at the University of Florida, her M.A. in English at the University of Wyoming, and a B.A. at Creighton University in Nebraska. She is a first-generation college graduate.

Tromp takes over at Boise State University on July 1, 2019. Her annual salary will be $425,000.
