2 bicyclists hurt in crosswalk accidents

Idaho Falls Police and the Idaho Falls Fire Department are reminding motorists to be on the watch for bicycles.

Two young children were struck by vehicles in the past 24 hours while bicycling near public schools.

The first involved an 8-year-old boy who was struck while riding his bike in a crosswalk at West Anderson and Ada, near the Bush Elementary School. The boy was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

In the second accident, a 7-year-old boy was struck by a car in the 1500 block of Boulevard Wednesday morning near the Hawthorne Elementary School. He suffered minor injuries, but was not transported. The driver’s citation was unknown.

Officers are asking drivers to be mindful of the changing season and changing surroundings, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and others, especially near schools and parks.
