Local movie theater preps for blockbuster premiere

It’s the end of an era. “Avengers: Endgame” premiere is the 22nd film to come out of the Marvel franchise and is expected to smash records at the box office. In Downtown Idaho Falls, a local theater is hoping that they’ll see a big turnout for Thursday night’s premiere.

“It should be pretty crazy just because it’s such an exciting film,” said Kent Lott, owner of the Centre Twin and Royal Theaters.

Tickets went on sale Wednesday, and it’s the first time the Centre Theatre will have reserved seating.

“It’ll be nice because people can purchase their tickets they don’t have to come super, super early and they know exactly where they’ll sit,” Lott said.

To get ready for the big premiere, the Centre Twin painted its floors, got new cash register systems and popped loads of popcorn.

“We’re geared up and stocked up, ready to go,” Lott said.

A big title like the Avengers is something the Centre Twin is more than excited it can play the opening weekend.

“People don’t want to wait,” Lott said. “If you’re an Avengers nut then you want to see it. You don’t want to hear about it from your friends.”

Before being able to first run features, the Centre Twin said it struggled a bit. Owners note that they had to rely on the Paramount Theater in Idaho Falls to help pay some of the bills.

After its first first-run movie, “The Angry Birds Movie,” did so well a few years ago, it helped grow the theater and pave its own way

“Because it’s a family film and that’s what we try to cater to, family,” Lott said,

Film companies took note of that and told them they wanted to start playing there.

“Avengers: Endgame” will be one of the biggest films to play at the Centre Twin. So if you do stop by the theater Thursday, remember no spoilers.
