Idaho Falls Animal Shelter reminds community about leash laws

There have been a number of complaints regarding dog owners not keeping their dogs on leashes.

The Idaho Falls Animal Shelter would like to remind pet owners that Bonneville County has a leash law. This means you can not take your dog off its leash anywhere that is not the dog park over by Snake River Animal Shelter. Everywhere else mandates a leash.

“There are a lot of misconceptions if a dog is under voice control it’s okay or if my dog is healing by my side it’s fine not have them tethered. This is not true,” Animal Control officer Clarissa Mueller said. “You don’t get to pick and choose when it benefits you. It’s to benefit and protect the public people as well as pets.”

Mueller said If you’re caught having a dog that is not on a leash in Bonneville County, it will be considered a misdemeanor, and you will need to appear in court.
