27th annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday

Letter carriers are taking part in an annual tradition for one of the largest food drives of the year. Saturday will be the 27th annual Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Post offices nationwide will accept donations of nonperishable food items for those in need. You can leave food donations by your mailbox on Saturday, where a postal carrier will deliver it to local food banks.

Local cities participating in this year’s event include Pocatello, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls and Rexburg. Last year 71.6 million pounds of food was donated nationwide, with nearly 300,000 pounds in Idaho.

“That’s really what it’s all about. People helping people,” said executive director of Idaho Food Bank in Pocatello, Adam Walker. “I’ve seen recipients of these donations and it’s not just food for them, It signifies hope.”

If you’d like to donate to the food bank, you can find out how and where to do that on the Idaho Food Bank website.
