Vigil set for Idaho teen killed in wreck involving fireworks

A vigil is planned for an Idaho teenager killed in a car accident that may have been the result of the driver becoming distracted by fireworks that ignited in the vehicle.

News outlets reported Sunday the candlelight vigil scheduled for Tuesday at Wallace Junior-Senior High School will commemorate 18-year-old Colten Holzheu of Pinehurst.

Idaho State Police say Holzheu was ejected from a car that struck a guardrail near Kellogg Saturday night. Holzheu was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police are investigating whether ignited fireworks found in the vehicle driven by 18-year-old Ryan Rodriguez contributed to Rodriguez losing control on Interstate 90 in northern Idaho.

No information was immediately available on the condition of Rodriguez or two other passengers.

Police say an investigation is continuing.
