Indiana fugitive collared near Sugar City

An Indiana fugitive is in custody after a foot chase in Madison County.

Idaho State Police stopped a 2007 Volkswagen Passat for speeding on Highway 33 near the Madison-Teton County line at around 7:16 p.m. Thursday.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Aaron Phelps of Portage, Indiana. A background check discovered Phelps was wanted on multiple felony warrants.

During the stop, Phelps ran away and ISP troopers pursued him. Madison and Fremont County deputies assisted along with Rexburg Police.

Phelps was caught after a short foot-chase near Highway 20, just south of Sugar City.

He was arrested on the three felony warrants with local charges of felony eluding and resisting arrest.
