Surveillance video helps police catch thief

Chubbuck Police officers were able to catch a thief after the incident was caught on camera Thursday morning.

The theft was recorded on a Ring doorbell camera showing the suspect approach the residence at approximately 6:30 a.m. where she removed decorative items from a porch on Jena Drive in Chubbuck.

Officers were able to quickly identify the suspect as 41-year-old Kayla Pratt of Chubbuck.

During their investigation, Pratt was cooperative with law enforcement and turned over several stolen items that were removed from front yards of homes in Chubbuck.

Police believe they were able to return all the items to their rightful owners, most of which were in the Chubbuck Road and Philbin Road area.

“This is another case showing the value of surveillance cameras in our residential areas in addition to solid investigative work by our officer’s and support staff,” Chubbuck police said in a press release. “This case should also serve as a warning to those who seek to steal from those in our community, that you may be recorded on camera.”

Pratt was subsequently charged with petit theft.
