Fire contained near Montpelier

The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center says firefighters fully contained the five-acre “Sheep Creek” fire at around 10 p.m. Friday. It was expected to be fully controlled Saturday night.

Four interagency engines and the Bear Lake County Fire District fought the fire.

The fire was located about five miles southeast of Montpelier. Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the fire, which started on private land about five miles southeast of Montpelier.

The area is experiencing heavy traffic this weekend for the Bear Lake Raspberry Days and many are camping on public lands.

The fire center reminds campers to use caution, since hotter temperatures and dry weather are creating conditions that can quickly ignite a fire.
