Local church hosts Bilingual Mass Community Festival
When we think of Sunday church, an outdoor summer festival is probably not the first thing that comes to mind.
But for one local church, their Sunday turned into Funday.
Saint John Paul II Parish Catholic Church in Idaho Falls hosted a Community Festival or Festival De La Comunidad.
Church and community members were invited to attend.
The sermon was held at the Waterfront at Snake River Landing in Idaho Falls.
Hundreds came out to take part in a Sunday worship service shared in two languages, English and Spanish.
Most people came out for the sermon, but they stayed to enjoy the party.
Mari Flores helped organize the festival and says the festival is a great way to build a strong community.
“We put this together so that other people could see what the Catholic community church is about. We invite other people to come and enjoy good food and socializing to build more of a community.”
This is the seventh year in a row the church held an outdoor, bilingual Mass.
It’s been a one-day event each year, but the priest of the church plans to host the event more often.
