Chubbuck public hearing for possible name change for Siphon Road

Developers are pushing to change the name of a street in Chubbuck. A public hearing is being held Wednesday night to change Siphon Road to New Day Parkway, the area west of Interstate 15 near the Northgate interchange.

Lyn Yost is a developer for the Northside Crossing, an area of farmland just west of the Northgate interchange. He’s proposing a 226-acre single neighborhood development, apart from a new district called the New Day District.

It will be a creative community that will be based on the Daybreak community in Jordan, Utah. Essentially, it’s a walkable neighborhood with bike paths and significant parks and open spaces.

The neighborhood will be adjacent to Siphon and Whitaker roads located just down the street from the new Northgate interchange. However, an informal petition was recently signed to rename that road to Northgate Boulevard.

“We would like to differentiate from Northgate. We are a different community. As a result, we would like the road to reflect that community name which is New Day or New Day parkway.”

Yost is not opposed to leaving it Siphon Road. However, he believes Northgate Boulevard shouldn’t represent Chubbuck’s New Day district.

“Nothing against Northgate, we just would like to show our differentiation and show where we’re at in the community,” Yost said.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Chubbuck City Hall at 51-60 Yellowstone Avenue.
