1 killed in construction accident

Houston Briscoe, 19, has been identified as the man injured during Tuesday’s collapse. As of Wednesday afternoon, Briscoe remains in critical condition at Portneuf Medical Center.

Bannock County authorities are investigating a construction accident that claimed the life of one worker Tuesday.Briscoe Builders Construction was building the new North Bannock Fire Station north of Chubbuck near Old Highway 91 and Tyhee Road. About 15 workers were on the scene.According to the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, the roof of the structure fell in and struck two people working below. One was killed, and the other was hospitalized.
It is currently unknown what caused the collapse, but the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation with OSHA to determine it.
Authorities are saying this structure is still dangerous, and people are asked to stay away.
The Bannock County Coroner has not yet released the identity of the man who died, and the condition of the other is also unknown.
The North Bannock County Fire District released the following statement:
” The North Bannock County Fire District acknowledges the tragedy that occurred today when a building under construction collapsed, fatally injuring one worker and severely injuring another. Our first concern is for the workers and their families. An investigation by the proper authorities to determine the cause has been initiated. The North Bannock County Fire District had planned to lease two of the bays in the building as a temporary fire station until a permanent station could be completed. Other options will now need to be considered. ”
