EISF crowns new food champions

Whether baked, grilled or fried, the Eastern Idaho State Fair has a rich tradition of offering the best fair food in the west.

This year, winners were chosen for the 8th annual Best Fair Food Awards from four categories: The “Best New Entree,” “Best New Sweet Item,” and the grand champions “Fairest of them All” and “Sweetest of them All” awards.

The winners are:

Best New Sweet Winners
— 1st – Birthday Bash Cake & Shake from Creamy Creations
— 2nd – Lemon Berry Chiffon Tickle from Sweet Temptations
— 3rd – Banana Foster Churro Donuts from C.R. Fish N Things

Other food entries included:
Chocolate Thunder from Camille’s Crepes
Fruity Pebble Funnel Cake from Snappy’s Funnel Cakes
Caramel Apple Pie Crepe from Camille’s Crepes
Huckleberry Funnel Cake from MD Dinky’s Donuts

Best New Entree Winners
— 1st – Mexican Crazy Corn Nachos from Mexican Crazy Corn
— 2nd – Baked Potato Asada Steak from La Casita Mexican Food
— 3rd – Bullseye Burger Saucy Spud Style from Outlaw Catering

Other food entries included:
Smokin B Combo BBQ Plate from Smokin B BBQ
Salty Fling from the Bread Barn
Homemade Smoked Mac N Cheese from Smokin B BBQ

Sweetest of them all Winners
— 1st – Ice Cream Baked Potato from Mama & Papa Leo’s
— 2nd – Raspberry Cream Cheese Brownie from Creamy Creations
— 3rd – Peaches and Dream Churro Donuts from C.R. Fish N Things

Other food entries included:
EISF Award Winning Cinnamon Roll from Sweet Temptations
Fruity Pebble Funnel Cake from Snappy’s Funnel Cake

Fairest of them all Entree Winners
— 1st – Smoke Salmon on a Bagel from C.R. Fish N Things
— 2nd – Bacon Crazy Corn from Mexican Crazy Corn
— 3rd – Turkey Bacon Avocado Crepe from Camille’s Crepes

Other food entries included:
Philly Cheesesteak from Outlaw Catering
The Cowboy Burger from Billman’s
Bullseye Burger from Outlaw Catering
Salty Fling from the Bread Barn

Local media representatives tasted each entry and judged it based on appearance and taste. All food items were judged on taste and appearance.

Each winner received a banner to hang in their booth declaring them 2019 champions, and the Grand Champion winners have the honor of displaying the traveling Golden Corndog and Golden Apple trophies during fair week.
