Idaho Falls woman honored with national AmeriCorps award

An Idaho Falls woman is being nationally recognized for her work in AmeriCorps.

Stephanie Taylor-Silva was awarded the 2019 Excellence in AmeriCorps Award for Most Compelling Member Experience. She traveled to Washington, D.C. last week to accept the honor at the national gathering of AmeriCorps leaders.

The award recognizes a member or alumni of AmeriCorps that has had a positive change as part of their service.

Taylor-Silva said that she is grateful to be part of the organization and help others.

“I was really humbled, it is a huge honor,” said Taylor-Silva. “I really loved my time as a service member. AmeriCorps was one of the biggest things in my life that have really laid a foundation to what I really want to do with the rest of my life.”

Taylor-Silva has been part of AmeriCorps for two years. She was able to join as part of her time with Free2Succeed, a partnership between AmeriCorps and the Idaho Department of Corrections.
Taylor-Silva was nominated for the award by Serve Idaho.

Taylor-Silva said that a highlight of the trip was being able to meet U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson at his office in Washington, D.C.
