Yellowstone looking at Wi-Fi options

KIFI

The National Park Service is proposing to install indoor Wi-Fi networks and associated equipment throughout Yellowstone National Park.

The services would be located in developed areas for the benefit of park visitors and employees. Access Parks has submitted an application for a right of way permit.

If approved, the permit would install up to 484 small antennas on employee housing a visitor lodging facilities at Canyon Village, Grant Village, Lake Village, Mammoth Hot Springs, and Old Faithful.

39 additional antennas would be required to link the smaller antennas to internet providers outside the park. The system would also require a 60-foot diameter antenna on an existing tower at Old Faithful, and a 2-foot and 3-foot antenna at Mount Washburn.

The plan would place the exterior antennas to minimize visibility and put many of the antennas in attic space or under eaves.
