A man is in custody for threatening to detonate a stick of dynamite in a Pocatello neighborhood Saturday night.

Police said the man’s girlfriend called police at around 8:30 p.m. to report the threat.

When officers arrived, the man was outside holding the explosive outside his home on North 10th Avenue.

Police closed off the street and evacuated two nearby homes during the 30-minute standoff.

Police said it ended when police were able to disable the man with a bean-bag gun.

Police have not released his name.

The Idaho Falls Bomb Squad was called in to dispose of the dynamite.

Police said the stick of dynamite was given to him by his grandfather 20 or 30 years ago.
