Dozens of Hong Kong journalists and some of their families have been harassed, media group says

Associated Press

HONG KONG (AP) — A leading media group reports that dozens of Hong Kong journalists have faced harassment in recent months. On Friday, the Hong Kong Journalists Association described the situation as the largest-scale harassment of reporters in the city. Selina Cheng, the chair of the association, says anonymous complaints have targeted journalists’ families and associates since June. Many threats warned of endangering national security if associations continued. Facebook posts accused journalists of producing problematic or illegal content. Cheng emphasized the damage to press freedom. She noted no direct link to authorities. Police and the privacy commissioner’s office are handling complaints. The harassment affected 13 news outlets and two journalism education institutions.
