Lemhi County traffic stop nets $295,000 in cash and illicit drugs; Two Montana men arrested

LEMHI COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — Two Montana men are in custody following a Sunday night traffic stop where a Lemhi County Sheriff's Deputy discovered a cache of illicit drugs and cash hidden in their truck.

Coty M. Wilson of Missoula and Brandy M. Wilson of Great Falls were arrested and booked into the Lemhi County Jail. Both men face charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Coty Wilson faces an additional charge of possession of LSD.

Sunday evening, around 9 pm, a deputy pulled over the men’s 2026 Dodge Ram 1500 for a traffic violation while patrolling along the Salmon River near the popular WagonHammer RV park.

After noticing the pungent smell of marijuana coming from the truck, the deputy searched the truck. The search uncovered approximately 115 grams of marijuana, 40 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of powdered fentanyl, tabs of LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, and several items of drug paraphernalia. Investigators also recovered $295,467.00 in US currency.

The Dodge Ram was impounded as evidence.

Under Idaho law, first-offense fentanyl possession is a felony carrying up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine. Because the methamphetamine seized exceeded 28 grams, if the men are found guilty, the trafficking charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison and a fine of at least $10,000.

Coty Wilson's preliminary hearing has been set for September 28th in Lemhi County.
