IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — A juvenile student is in custody Friday morning after an alleged firearm threat prompted a brief "Hall Check" at two local schools, according to Idaho Falls School District 91.

According to Idaho Falls Police Department spokesperson Jessica Clements, the student arrived at school Friday morning and was taken into custody for an offense related to a fight earlier this week. At this time, IFPD is investigating whether a threat was actually made. Clements emphasizes that there is no evidence that a gun was brought to school.

"Idaho Falls Police was notified of a rumor of a threat, and we investigate all threats seriously," Clements told Local News 8.

Around 10:40 a.m., Idaho Falls School District 91 sent an alert to parents stating that Eagle Rock Middle School and Ethel Boyes Elementary were placed on a "Hall Check" due to a report that a student made a reference to bringing a gun to school. A "Hall Check" is when students are not allowed to roam the halls or leave their classroom, but instruction continues in the classroom.

"Our first priority is always the safety of our students and staff. District 91 and IFPD take all reports seriously. We encourage all students to talk to a trusted adult immediately if they hear or see something that concerns them," said Superintendent Karla LaOrange in the message to parents.

By 11:20 a.m., District 91 notified parents that the student had been taken into custody by law enforcement and the Hall Check status was lifted.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Idaho Falls Police Department.
