Quick action prevents major damage in Monday morning kitchen fire at Oliver’s Restaurant

Pocatello Fire Department

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) — Quick action by staff and local firefighters prevented serious damage at Oliver’s Restaurant on Monday morning after a grill fire broke out in the kitchen.

The Pocatello Fire Department responded to a call at the locally owned restaurant at 130 S. 5th Ave., around 7:12 a.m.

A full response team quickly arrived on scene, knocking down the flames and keeping the fire contained to the kitchen grill. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

PFD Community Relations Specialist Kim Stouse commended the cook and restaurant staff for immediately calling 911 so they were quickly able to contain the blaze.

According to Stouse, the grill's hood system needs to be inspected to ensure it's safe to use.

Restaurant staff are currently coordinating cleanup efforts and arranging the inspections. While an official reopening date has not been confirmed, employees told Local News 8 they hope to welcome customers back as early as Tuesday.
