Police release identity of woman found in canal in Chubbuck

CHUBBUCK, Idaho (KIFI) — UPDATE 5/18/21: Chubbuck Police have released an update to a case from May 15 regarding a deceased adult female located near the intersection of Hiline Rd and New Day Parkway in the irrigation canal.

On Monday, the Ada County Coroners Office completed an autopsy, and the deceased was positively identified as 30-year-old Samantha Bear of Fort Hall.

The autopsy revealed there were no obvious signs of trauma to her body, and at this point, foul play is not suspected in her death; however, police are still awaiting the results of a toxicology report which could be several weeks.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Samantha Bear during this difficult time as they process the difficult loss of their loved one," Chubbuck Police said in a press release.

ORIGINAL: Chubbuck police say a woman's body was found in a canal Saturday morning.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Chubbuck Police Department officers were dispatched near the intersection of Hiline Road and New Day Parkway after receiving a report of a possible body in the canal.

Officers confirmed they found the body of an woman, who has not yet been identified.

The investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for next week with the Ada County Coroner’s office in Boise.
